HOF 2006 – Athletics
Schell’s junior year at the Class A Girls Basketball Tournament, she was selected for the 1st Team. Her senior year, she received All-American Honorable Mention in Basketball, was a Hanson/Anderson Miss Basketball Finalist, and was an All-Conference 1st Team pick. Her talents continued from the basketball court onto the track and field. Her senior year, she was the ESD discus champion, and she held the distance record in discus for over a decade.
Schell was the single season/all-time record holder for total rebounds at CHS. She helped lead the 1984 Girls Basketball Team to a 3rd place finish at the State Girls Basketball Tournament in the Mitchell Corn Palace.
After graduating from CHS, Schell attended NSU where she played college basketball and volleyball. She currently holds the record for single season basketball rebounds at NSU. Her freshman year she was named to the All Sun Conference Team, and was the second in the district in percentage of rebounds per game.
Schell graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Art Education and she has taught in the Northwestern School District for many 26 years. She was selected to be one of the first visual art instructors to teach in the SD ARTSCORP, an arts program to juveniles in correctional facilities.
Her interest in athletics continues as she was selected to the Class A All-Decade Basketball Team for the years 1975-1984.
Schell lives in Leola with her husband Chris. They have three children, Joshua, Justice and Sydney.
